Can you upgrade my Thumper® to meet the 2010 AHA CPR Guidelines?
It depends on the model of Thumper you have:
- Model 1005. The Model 1005 cannot be upgraded but it may be traded in towards the purchase of a new Model 1008 Life-Stat® CPR to provide 'Hands-Free CPR' that fully meet the 2010 AHA CPR guidelines.
- Model 1007 or 1007CCV. An upgrade option is available for the Models 1007 or 1007CCV to the Model 1008 Life-Stat® CPR to provide 'Hands-Free CPR' that fully meet the 2010 AHA CPR guidelines.
- The Models 1007 or 1007CCV may also be traded in towards the purchase of a new Model 1008 Life-Stat® CPR.
- Model 1007CC. The Model 1007CC cannot be upgraded but it may be traded in towards the purchase of a new Model 1008 Life-Stat® CPR to provide 'Hands-Free CPR' that fully meet the 2010 AHA CPR guidelines.

How does the Life-Stat® fully meet the 2010 AHA Guidelines?
Using an electronic timing control powered by 2 inexpensive 9 volt alkaline batteries, the Life-Stat® Model 1008 CPR is capable of providing both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation protocols as outlined in the 2010 AHA guidelines. A mode button can select either 30 compressions to 2 ventilations (30:2) for BLS or continuous compressions with ventilation (CCV) for ALS. See the 30:2 graph and the CCV graph below.
NOTE: The time scale incremented in seconds representing a 60 second or 1 minute interval for the graphs appearing on this page. The graphs are a representation of ventilations and compressions during CPR.
30:2

Upper tracing (ventilations) are shown delivering 600ml tidal volume with an Inspiratory to Expiratory (I:E) ratio of 1:1.5. The lower tracing (compressions) are delivered at a rate of 100 compressions per minute (CPM) with a depth of 4 cm.
NOTE: Upon exhalation of the second ventilation, the chest compressions resume.
The 30:2 protocol delivers 89 compressions and 4 ventilations within one minute.

CCV

Upper tracing (ventilations) are shown delivering 600ml tidal volume with an Inspiratory to Expiratory (I:E) ratio of 1:5.5. The lower tracing (compressions) are delivered at a rate of 100 compressions per minute (CPM) with a depth of 4 cm.
The CCV protocol delivers 100 compressions and approximately 9 ventilations within one minute.

What are the dimensions & weight of the Life-Stat®?
The Model 1008 Life-Stat® CPR measures 22-1/2" (57.2cm) in height, 7-5/8" (19.4cm) in width and 18-1/4" (46.4cm) in length and weighs approximately 19 lbs (8.6kg).
Can the Life-Stat® be used on infants or children?
No. The Life-Stat® (as with all mechanical CPR devices) is approved by the FDA for use on adult patients only. The AHA 2010 CPR guidelines specifically states the following:
"There is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against the use of IAC-CPR in the out-of-hospital setting or in children." See Part 7:
CPR Techniques and Devices
--excerpt from "Interposed Abdominal Compression-CPR" section.
"There is insufficient data in infants and children to recommend for or against the use of the following: mechanical devices to compress
the chest, active compression-decompression CPR, interposed abdominal compressions CPR (IAC-CPR), the impedance
threshold device, or pressure sensor accelerometer (feedback) devices." See Part 13: Pediatric Basic Life Support
-- excerpt from "Other CPR Techniques and Adjuncts" section.
