Q. Can you upgrade my Thumper® to
have it meet
the 2005 AHA CPR Guidelines? |
|
A. It depends on the model of Thumper you have: |
|
|
| |
Model 1004. No, they have been out of production for
over 20 years. |
|
|
| |
Model 1005. The Model 1005 has a ventilation switch. The
ventilator can be turned off and the unit will do continuous
compressions. However, the compression rate is set at
80 compressions/min. However, the Model 1005 can be
adjusted to 100 compressions/min. See Maintenance
Instructions in the 1005 Manual or contact MII
for further instruction. |
|
|
| |
Model 1007. Yes. There is a $480 USD conversion
that adds a switch so that the Thumper will provide a
continuous 100 per/min compression rate. The modified
Thumper can be used in the 30:2 or continuous compression
protocol by the use of external ventilation. Note:
for the 30:2 protocol the continuous compressions are
interrupted so that external ventilation can be delivered.
Compressions are then resumed. See
demonstration video. Contact us for further
information. |
| |
NOTE: Download of the video will take approximately
3-5 minutes (based on a 1.3 mb download DSL connection). |

Q. How do the 5:1 and 30:2 compression to ventilation (C:V)
ratios compare? |
|
A. See the timing diagrams below comparing the 5:1 to
30:2 C:V ratio. |
|
|
|
NOTE: The time scale is reflected in seconds for both
graphs. |

Upper tracing (ventilations) are shown delivering 600ml
tidal volume with an Inspiratory to Expiratory (I:E) ratio
of 1:2. The lower tracing (compressions) are delivered
at a rate of 100 compressions per minute (CPM) with a depth
of 4 cm. The 5:1 protocol delivers 70 compressions and 14
ventilations within one minute. |
